Surgical Services

At ACMC, surgeons routinely perform inpatient and outpatient surgeries of the thyroid, stomach, small bowel, colon, gallbladder, appendix and hernia. They often use laparoscopic techniques that allow access to the abdomen through a very small incision. These minimally invasive procedures offer patients quicker recovery and earlier return to normal activities than conventional surgery.

Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery

ACMC offers comprehensive otolaryngological care, including facial plastic surgery, to treat health issues such as tonsillitis, sinusitis, balance problems and hearing concerns.

Gynecological Surgery

When medication and other treatment options do not relieve symptoms, surgery may be necessary. Gynecologists perform the latest surgical procedures at ACMC to treat conditions of the female reproductive system.

Orthopedic Surgery

Whether it's fixing broken bones or replacing worn-out joints, orthopedic surgeons at the Ashtabula County Medical Center perform hundreds of orthopedic procedures every year. Our surgeons use state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to help keep patients mobile.

Outpatient Surgery

Every day, physicians at Ashtabula County Medical Center perform laparoscopic, arthroscopic and gastrointestinal surgeries—all sophisticated procedures done on an outpatient basis, meaning patients are able to go home the same day. About 60 percent of surgeries can be done on an outpatient basis.

It is important to remember that complications can arise in even the simplest surgical procedure. The most common complications in outpatient surgery are bleeding (sometimes requiring a transfusion), respiratory problems, injury to surrounding tissue and infection. Another important consideration is your overall health. If you have an underlying health problem, such as diabetes, heart disease or kidney disease, you are at higher risk for these and other surgery-related complications.

In Ashtabula County, patients can rest assured. In the ACMC surgical suites, technology and facilities partner with the technique of our surgeons and the skill and compassion of our nurses to provide you with the best possible outcome for both outpatient and inpatient surgeries. Immediate access to additional surgical specialists and the vast resources of the entire hospital make surgery at ACMC safer.

Urological Surgery

Procedures are performed to treat a variety of urologic conditions, including prostate cancer, impotence and kidney disease. ACMC offers the most current procedures for stress urinary incontinence and cryosurgery.

ACMC has been designated a Center of Excellence for cryosurgery by Endocare. The designation follows completion of an extensive training program by urologic surgeons and the successful treatment of a high volume of patients.

Vascular Surgery

ACMC offers comprehensive care for disorders of the veins and blood vessels. Candidates for vascular surgery include patients with:

  • Carotid artery blockages.
  • Chronic leg swelling.
  • Aneurysms of aorta and leg arteries.
  • Hypertension and kidney artery blockage.
  • Leg pain due to poor circulation.
  • Varicose veins.

Podiatric Surgery

ACMC’s podiatrist offers a variety of surgical procedures for the foot and ankle, such as treatments for bunions, hammertoes, corns, plantar fasciitis and tight tendons. They also perform procedures to help with poor blood circulation, diabetes-related injuries, wound care and sports injuries.
