Hospitalists are internal medicine physicians who specialize in caring for hospitalized patients. Hospitalists work only in the hospital and are able to see patients multiple times during the day to follow a patient's progress.
Hospitalists are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. During your hospital stay, you may be cared for by several different hospitalists. The physicians work 12-hour shifts for a week, with the first shift from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and night shift from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
After you are discharged from the hospital, your primary care provider (PCP) will receive a full report from the hospitalists to ensure continuity of care after. If your PCP is employed by ACMC, he or she also has immediate access to information about your hospital stay through your electronic medical record.
