Only seven wound healing centers in nation earn award

Ashtabula County Medical Center's Wound Healing Center has been honored as Wound Care CenterĀ® of the Year for the North East Zone by Healogics, Inc., the nation's leading and largest wound care management company. This designation recognizes ACMC's Wound Healing Center as #1 out of 100 centers throughout much of the northeastern United States, stretching from the Tennessee to Maine.

The ACMC Wound Healing Center has achieved patient satisfaction rates higher than 92 percent and 91 percent of patients' wounds are healed in less than 31 days. . Out of the 630 centers across the United States that were eligible, only seven centers received this prestigious award in 2016.

"This award reflects the dedication the ACMC Wound Healing Center Caregivers have for our patients," said ACMC President and CEO Michael Habowski. "They don't do their job to get noticed or receive an award. They do their job because they want their patients to have a higher quality of life, to not suffer from a non-healing wound."

The ACMC Wound Healing Center provided more than 500 patients with specialized treatment in 2016, often preventing costly amputations and helping patients return to active lives.

The Wound Care Center is a member of the Healogics network of nearly 800 centers, with access to benchmarking data and proven experience treating approximately 2.5 million chronic wounds. ACMC's Wound Healing Center offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds, which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. Some of the leading-edge treatments offered at the Wound Care Center include negative pressure wound therapy, debridement, application of cellular-based tissue or skin substitutes to the wound, offloading or total contact casts and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

"We are honored and blessed each day by the privilege of caring for the wonderful patients in our community with chronic, non-healing wounds," said A. Craig Frisina, RN, program director of the ACMC Wound Healing Center. "The Center of the Year award recognizes our efforts in 2016, but the team here has also been recognized in the past for the superb care given to our patients."

The ACMC Wound Healing Center was also named a Center of Excellence for the third year in a row and a Center of Distinction for a third time. It has also received the President's Circle award twice in the past four years.
